Dear Parents,
Enclosed is your child’s 1st trimester report card. The purpose of this report card is to let you know how your child is currently performing in his/her classroom. Our teachers have been working very diligently this trimester to get to know the strengths/weaknesses of each student. It is our hope that you will use the information contained in this report card while working with your child at home. Encourage and praise your child in his/her strong areas and challenge and support your child in areas where improvement is needed. Please note that we have updated report cards this year. The goal was to have them more fully aligned with Common Core State Standards.
California public schools will continue online state testing this year. The online test is known as SBAC (stands for Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium) or CAASP (stands for California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress). Our 3rd – 5th grade students will take tests in Language Arts and Mathematics during May on Chromebook laptops. In addition, our 5th grade students will take an online pilot test in Science this year (also in May). Leffingwell made phenomenal progress on state testing last year. Every grade in every subject area made growth! In fact, we outscored Los Angeles County and State of California averages by 20-30% in Language Arts and Mathematics!
Keep in mind that the last day of school before Christmas Break is Wednesday, December 21st. Students return from the break on Monday, January 9th. On behalf of the entire Leffingwell staff, I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Scott Blackwell
Principal
